زماني كه قافلهي اسيران را به مجلس ابن زياد وارد كردند، زينب ناشناس و با جامههاي كهنه در ميان آنان بود، و در حالي كه كنيزان گرد او را گرفته بودند، در گوشهاي نشستند؛ ابن زياد گفت: اين چه كسي بود كه با كنيزان خود به كناري خزيد؟ زينب پاسخ نداد و بار دوم و سوم. ابن زياد سؤال خود را تكرار كرد؛ سپس يكي از كنيزان گفت: اين زينب، دختر فاطمه بنت رسولالله(ص)، است؛ پس ابن زياد رو به او كرد و گفت: <br />
